I’m really concerned about the direction these proposed changes are taking. Moving to a registration-first system might speed up development, but it seriously risks weakening protections for Ontario’s most vulnerable species. Allowing projects to begin without proper review opens the door to mistakes we can’t undo.
I’m especially worried about the government giving itself the power to decide which species are protected, even after experts like COSSARO have done the science. This feels like we’re sidelining evidence in favour of political or economic priorities.
We all want Ontario to grow and thrive — but that shouldn’t come at the expense of the wildlife and habitats that make this province so special. Conservation and economic development don’t have to be at odds, but this proposal leans too far in one direction. Please reconsider and keep science and environmental responsibility at the heart of these decisions.
