Frankly, these amendments could not be more dismissive of the environment, local animals and plant life, endangered species and even human health (as our health depends directly on the health of the environment that surround us). They are clearly, and openly, a way to slash all kinds of protections to facilitate development and construction that nobody asked for, and nobody needs. These are not public works that will bring clean public transportation to the province, but a blanket permit for any private developer, mining company or tunneling fan to destroy entire habitats and kill or displace hundreds of thousands of species.
Furthermore, after Doug Ford allowed the hunt of the bear in spring, and last year's destruction of Ontario Place, closure of the Ontario Science Center, endangerment of the Green Belt, lack of funding for open air installation in schools, and order to remove the bike lanes in Toronto without providing any kind of public transportation, I cannot say that I trust the current Government of Ontario to act in the best interest of its citizens, and in accordance to their needs. Instead, what we have seen is an increased privatization of public spaces, a destruction of green areas, and incredibly dismissive actions towards residents and visitors of the province.
So, do I support a Bill that will guarantee the destruction of beautiful green areas and the endangerment of even more animal species only so that some useless projects can make a few developers even richer? No. Not at all. Do not pass this thing.
