I have just learned today about ERO number 025-0380
Proposed interim changes to the Endangered Species Act, 2007 and a proposal for the Species Conservation Act, 2025
This Proposal seems very, very bad for all of our flora and fauna relatives, and seems to allow developers to just sprawl and ruin essential natural habitats, when **they should be focusing on re-developing vacant already-developed land inside town and city boundaries**.
Here are 2 example statements from the proposal that I oppose strongly:
'The proposed amendments to the ESA would remove the requirements to develop recovery strategies and management plans...'
'Under the new registration system, proponents will be able to get projects started as soon as they have completed their online registration, provided they are following the rules in regulation. This eliminates the step of waiting for the ministry to review and approve permits.'
Government review and oversight of developers is CRUCIAL and MUST REMAIN MANDATORY, because developers have zero incentive to voluntarily comply with anything that gets in the way of creating quick profit for their shareholders.
Thank you.
