I am deeply concerned about the proposed shift to a registration-based system and the narrowing of key definitions such as "habitat" and "harass." These changes, combined with increased government discretion in listing species, risk weakening protections for Ontario’s most vulnerable wildlife.
Accelerating development in or near areas previously considered protected threatens to undermine years of conservation progress. While economic growth is important, it must not come at the cost of irreversible biodiversity loss. I urge the government to maintain strong, science-based protections and to ensure that endangered species and their habitats remain a priority in policy decisions.
