To whom it may concern:
Bill 5 threatens Ontario’s environment, democratic process, and Indigenous rights. Repealing the Endangered Species Act and replacing it with vague, unenforceable goals will accelerate the decline of at-risk species and ecosystems. Creating “special economic zones” that bypass environmental assessments and public or Indigenous consultation undermines transparency, accountability, and treaty obligations. Ontarians have not asked for weaker protections. I urge the government to withdraw Bill 5 and work with Indigenous leaders, environmental experts, and the public to strengthen, not weaken, our environmental safeguards. A healthy environment is essential to a just and resilient society.
