Surely speeding up the development process can’t be a good thing? I see how it would make things more convenient and solve some short term problems, but long term I see it causing more issues. Sustainable development takes time, doing anything right takes time and effort. Speeding up this process and allowing development to begin as soon as they’ve registered online will allow unsustainable practices and harmful projects to slip through. How can our government allow these projects to begin *before* the registration forms and building plans are even looked over? Rushing into these projects without having knowledgeable experts approve them will lead to repeats of Coote’s paradise. If we try to speed up the necessary processes to keep our natural environments and creatures safe, they will become less effective. Economic sustainability is important, but so is environmental sustainability? I honestly find it very sneaky and misleading to even use that phrasing in this proposal. If we don’t put in the proper work to keep our natural life safe we will lose important biodiversity, and green spaces necessary for the health of our country and planet. The natural world is a big complex system that makes this planet and land livable if we do not want to disrupt and harm that we need to sacrifice some time to do things properly.

It’s hard to trust a government and their interests in environmentally sustainable practices when they’ve even put our green belt at risk.

I would like to know what environmental scientists were consulted in the making of this proposal?
