To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the newly proposed Bill 5, which poses a direct threat to Ontario’s environmental protections.
This bill appears to prioritize short-term political or corporate gain over the long-term health and sustainability of our ecosystems, communities, and future generations. Weakening environmental oversight, gutting existing protections, and bypassing public consultation sets a dangerous precedent. It strips communities of their voice and removes accountability from decisions that directly impact our air, water, wildlife, and climate resilience.
Ontario is already facing the effects of climate change: from extreme weather events to biodiversity loss. Now is the time to strengthen our environmental safeguards—not dismantle them.
I urge you to withdraw this bill and instead consult meaningfully with Indigenous communities, environmental experts, and Ontario residents to develop policies that protect our natural resources while planning responsibly for growth.
I expect my government to act in the public interest, not cater to the demands of those who see land only in terms of profit. Protect the land, the water, and the people of Ontario. Say no to Bill 5.
Sincerely,
An Ontario
