I work as a Planner for the municipality of Mississippi Mills, and I oppose this bill. In my work I can see first hand how important it is to protect the environment and ensure that developers are respecting other nature, otherwise it can all be destroyed for the sake of a few homes. We should be focusing on strengthening departments that conduct archaeological assessments to speed up the review process, rather than eliminate the need for arch assessments. Regarding development charges, municipalities need these to make sure our communities are healthy, safe and providing for with things like roads, water and wastewater services. Chopping these fees does nearly nothing to the cost of a new single dwelling and has severe impacts on our ability to provide for the community as a municipality.
