I strongly oppose Bill 5 and the dismantling of the Endangered Species Act.
There are so many problems with this proposal, including the new definition of habitat which doesn’t consider the wider territory that an animal needs for survival – to find food or a mate, for example.
The idea that a person need only ‘register’ before inflicting irreversible damage to a species at risk is quite obviously futile.
It’s shocking how bold your government is in declaring itself more qualified than scientists to add/remove species from the protected species list. You are merely politicians, without the necessary education or experience to make these decisions. That is NOT what you’ve been elected to do, and you are greatly overstepping your bounds here.
The changes to the Endangered Species Act, as with other changes being proposed with Bill 5, are unacceptable. We did not elect you to dismantle laws and processes that are in place to protect the Ontario that we love and the nature that we value so deeply.
