Do not go through with making it easy to develop land being protected. Without proper process (checking species of land, quality of land, etc.), important habitats will be destroyed. Urban sprawl will destroy the natural habitats and lead to the death of many species, endangered or not, which is atrocious. Progress should not be made at the expense of our biodiversity. Instead, I suggest land is ranked based on review of species, quality, etc. with different experts to determine which spots of land can be used for future development. Additionally, projects should be reviewed for the actual benefit they bring, as some projects only benefit the rich or only reduce transport time by a couple minutes (regarding roads). If we want our country to be sustainable, we must balance development with conservation or else we will lose what makes Canada beautiful. Processes are there to protect the wildlife who otherwise do not have a voice, we should not change them to make it easier to trample on them and destroy their habitats in the name of some new buildings when other space (in cities) could instead be renovated for similar development.
In the aim of creating a greener country, is it not a step backward to destroy habitats when we are also trying to develop more eco friendly means of living?
