The repeal of the Endangered Species Act with replacement by the Species Conservation Act includes potentially disastrous consequences for species at risk.
Including:
-Recover is no longer a goal, harassment of species at risk would no longer be regulated;
-Habitat definition is too small for survival and will lead to continued decline of species at risk
-There is no formal recognition of species at risk
-It includes an automatic registration system and there is no clear path to refusing registrations for killing species
-The focus of the bill is individual projects instead of integrated regional planning - no "big picture" thinking or planning
