We need oversight of proposed development projects as there are always implications, many unintended and others trivialized for anyone or anything potentially impacted by the project. Removing these safeguards ensures we have fewer opportunities to remove, control, mitigate, and manage these risks in a meaningful way that provides long term protection especially when those at risk don’t have resources or a voice to object. We must have sustainable solutions for economic development that don’t compromise our communities which includes the environment and all the diversity within them. Governments must do everything possible to make sure the land, water, soil and life that are currently in our care remain vital and viable for the future. For these reasons I do not support Bill 5 as written and want to see it removed. I cannot in good conscience support any government actions that compromise our long term interests for potential short term benefits for a few while causing harm to many.
