I struggle with this Act change because I really feel that we are not weighing risks and benefits of removing some of the guidelines and processes. While we are an ever-changing province with a ton of potential for attractions etc., it is so important not to forget the big picture: when our environmental health is gone, so are we as humans.
We require vast ecosystems that deserve our attention and care when making big decisions for changing the law. We have to ask ourselves: is the potential income or speed of building improve our lives that greatly? Does accomplishing a goal with less time improve the future of our children? In my opinion, no it doesn't. We see the exciting possibilities ahead of us, but we don't consider the risk of what may come if we rush.
I typically do not involve myself in environmental concerns, however, there has been a ton of government overreach abroad and at home the last few years, and to see legislation come through that says they will be putting less effort into reviewing the species conservation act at all is a little concerning. Those animals deserve to be on this planet without harm just as much as we do.
