Institutions, laws and regulations that are fundamental to democracy and to the protection of environment, health and well-being are being rapidly dismantled in the US. It is critical that we -- in contrast -- stand strong behind the full, fair, universal application of thoughtfully developed laws and processes to ensure that development serves societal good. The proposed SEZA is a frightening indication of anti-democratic tendencies, eliminates the opportunity for improved approaches to development based on considered input, is unnecessary to ensure that developments can proceed efficiently, and leaves open the potential if not likelihood for rampant corruption.
