Please accept the following staff report as comments from the Township of Muskoka Lakes on the proposed amendments to the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The Township is concerned that the amendments could significantly erode the current protections afforded to species at risk and their habitat in the province. The Township of Muskoka Lakes depends on the protection of its natural
environment for its economic, social and cultural well being and one of its primary
goals in its Strategic Plan is the enhancement of its natural environment. It appears
that revisions to the ESA will reduce existing protections to the natural environment.
