I am writing as a concerned constituent to express my strong opposition to Bill 5, which significantly weakens Ontario’s Endangered Species Act (ESA).
Ontario’s ESA was once considered one of the strongest in North America. It played a vital role in protecting our province’s rich biodiversity and ensuring that development decisions considered the survival of at-risk species. Bill 5 undermines these protections by allowing greater flexibility for industrial and development interests at the expense of endangered wildlife and fragile ecosystems.
By prioritizing economic convenience over ecological responsibility, Bill 5 jeopardizes not only species already at risk but the health of Ontario’s environment as a whole. We have a duty to preserve our natural heritage for future generations—not to strip away protections that ensure its survival.
