I am writing as a citizen of Ontario to express dismay at Bill 5. It is my belief that Bill 5 will dismantle or undermine many key legal protections that safeguard our environment, human health, and Indigenous rights. As someone who resides in Northern Ontario, I'm particularly alarmed at what the Ontario government is planning with regards to development within the "Ring of Fire", and the lessening, if not removal, of key regulatory and environmental monitoring and assessment, and Indigenous consultation/consent. It's hard to say just how bad things would be under the terms of this Bill, but bad they will be. The Trump tariffs are being used as an excuse to remove important safeguards. Please, withdraw this ill-formed Bill 5.
