I stand in opposition to this bill. The bill waters down rules that protect endangered species and natural heritage sites, maintain oversight of mining activities, require respect for constitutionally guaranteed Indigenous Rights and mandate environmental assessments and protections. I am especially alarmed at the special economic zones that are exempt from provincial and municipal rules, particularly the Ring of Fire. If we need to mine in Northern Ontario, we must do so with Indigenous Rights and environmental protection in mind. More reasons why I am against this bill can be found in the resources below.
