I am opposed to this proposal for revamping Endangeed Species protection, which will speed up the destruction of critical habitat for endangered species.
When habitat is lost, endangered species numbers decline. They are already considered endangered, so this sends them toward extinction, When a species goes extinct they are gone forever. They will exist no more on the earth.
It is incredibly foolish to tear apart these protections.
I have a child, nephews and nieces, and indeed I care for all children in our communities. They need a world with life in it!
The effects of climate change (increased fires, droughts, flooding) are already outting huge pressure o ecosystems.
So in choosing where and how to build infrastructure for people, we must consider how to do this wisely, to not threaten the nature that we as people also need. Just like those endangered species, we need it for our survival too!! And in particular future generations will need it.
Much work has been done to build up knowledge and practices around species protection, in the existing legislation. Tearing it apart is foolhardy.
Please remember that when endangered species are lost they are lost forever.
I live in Toronto and also spend time with family near Alliston, and have spent much time north of Parry Sound, and also in the Ottawa region. I was born in Ontario, and am a Canadian citizen of European descent. I want fairness for all people and especially care about justice for Indigenous people.
