Dear Publicly Elected Officials,
Particularly the Government of Ontario Premier Doug Ford and the Conservative Party you represent,
I am writing to state emphatically that as an Ontarian and until a short time ago a Party supporter, I am against the passing of Bill 5 in its entirety!!! I stopped voting for the PC party because, I have observed your Government systematically erode many of the policies and protections put in place by previous party leaders. Particularly those surrounding the environment and endangered species, and the rights of the indigenous peoples on whose land we reside. This bill will also remove the ability of municipalities to effectively govern and direct how they wish to see their communities move forward. This Bill 5 is just one more step toward the erosion of the Democratic process in our Province by making the Province the decision maker on how all development, moves forward. This Bill 5 will also be detrimental to many Municipalities keeping intact and function Natural heritage systems that are free and existing assets and effective tools in their fight against increasingly severe weather events. With the erosion of these assets, will come the need for more Provincial financial supports.
On the whole these Bill 5 policies are very short sighted producing quick financial and economic gain, while creating devastating long term affects on the very fabric of our democratic society.
Thank you
LL
