Bill 5 would repeal Ontario’s Endangered Species Act, ending most meaningful protections for endangered, threatened, and special concern species.
It would enable the government to ban all parts of energy projects that come from abroad. If enacted, Bill 5 would likely end solar power installation and deprive Ontarians access to the cleanest source of new electricity available.
It could exempt developers from any provincial or municipal laws including health and safety laws, traffic and speeding laws, labour laws.
The loosening of rules around ‘special economic zones could be used to undermine Indigenous sovereignty and the constitutional right to free, prior, and informed consent. Bill 5 is a ‘No Guardrails’ power grab and the bill should be killed.
