The ESA is a science-based listing and permitting process that was established in order to uphold the necessary work of recovery and stewardship of our environment against other interests. I am strongly against this bill because it shuts down proper consultation in favour of allowing politicians to arbitrarily decide what species get to be protected or not. This will weaken the much needed protections of so many endangered species of Ontario's province at a time when we are already experiencing the consequences of our dying ecosystems and worsening climate crisis. This bill will only result in negative consequences for our province in the long term.
