This bill should not be passed. Reducing protections for endangered species is the wrong decision. We need to protect these species and their ecosystems because maintaining biodiversity in Ontario is crucial for maintaining healthy ecosystems and supporting all life on Earth, including humans. If we loosen our environmental protections we doom these species to extinction and no amount of profit can undo the impact of losing life. Bill 5 supports a short sighted vision for a quick dollar now and does not forecast the costs down the line that will result from sacrificing these habitats and species. If we reduce biodiversity and develop these habitats we face costly future problems in relation to climate change and invasive species control. Future generations keep having to mend the poor decisions of governments of the past, but sadly loss of species and habitats is not one that can be undone. Do not allow Bill 5 to be passed, it does not benefit the people or organisms that live in Ontario when you factor in the substantial impacts we will face from not protecting these species and their habitats.
