Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the Ontario Government's proposed Bill 5 proposing changes to the Endangered Species Act, 2007.
I am very troubled by the government's proposed changes. I believe they really gut the original bill and the ability for us to protect Endangered Species from pollution, loss of habitat, and clean food and water.
Our wildlife are continuously facing more and more challenges due to human activity and wanton selfishness, as well as climate change and more fires and flooding (many of which are also caused by human carelessness and neglect). Feeding, breeding, birthing and migrating pattern are important for the wellness of species and biodiversity. Upsetting these can have devastating impacts. Many conservation efforts will be negated.
The changes proposed would weaken the laws that currently protect Endangered Species, at a time when we need to put more protections in place.
All species -- including humans -- need clean food and water. If we don't first protect those things all will suffer dire consequences.
So, please stop Bill 5 from passing.
Thank you.
