Ontario's Bill 5 would erode safeguards against mining activity, increase pressures on endangered species, circumvent our obligation to address Indigenous rights and remove tenets of fair competition and transparency.
The government is promising to create a new “streamlined approval process for mining” by amending the Mining Act to emphasize “protection of Ontario's economy” without a commitment to prevent harm to our ecology, our responsibility to reconciliation, threaten public health and the environment and negatively impact future generations.
