Very simply, we need more protections for our vulnerable sectors, not less. We must break the pattern of allowing short-sightedness and reactive behaviours to rule the day. We don’t progress as a nation of peoples on this planet without the support of biodiversity. Period. I’m not a scientist. I don’t need to be dripping with degrees and PHDs to know this as fact. I’m a conscious observer of the delicate balance of nature that keeps me living and breathing today.

Control over economic decisions that can ripple downstream and negatively harm the entire population of Ontario should not be centralized. Consultation with Indigenous groups and accountability should always be upheld as law for our elected government.

Economic interests should, in fact, always be intertwined with ecological recovery; when one is not so focused on short-term solutions to a problem and instead looks widely, intelligently, and creatively for a situation, we can marry economy with ecology. It’s called: ecological economics. “ At the heart of this, [ecological economics] recognizes that our economy is part of a finite biosphere and needs to respect its ecological limits.”

We live in a day and age where every decision matters. Every decision can either uplift or roll back our already fragile, damaged ecosystem. Every decision matters.

To thrive and to progress is to protect OUR environment.

Thank you.
