I oppose Bill 5 and support strengthening environmental protections like those in the Endangered Species Act. The ESA is critical for the protection and future of our natural resources. It is short sighted to remove this act and replace it with the proposed Species Conservation Act, which will severely damage our natural resources and instead allow development before going through the necessary mitigation measures to ensure that there are little to no environmental impacts. You cannot recreate or replace the complex ecosystem or vulnerable species that are at risk of losing their protections and provide immense ecosystem services to humans. We must strengthen environmental protections to ensure we have our ecosystems and vulnerable species for future generations.
