I heavily disapprove of Bill 5. It is incredibly short sighted, ignorant, and self serving for the benefit of corporations and not the general public.

The months or years that the Bill saves in going ahead with construction—be it for transit or housing is incomparable to the destruction it costs the environment, Indigenous people whose land they may trudge upon AND taxpayers. The latter I mention, because realistically, as a taxpayer we want affordable housing not more condos or apartments that will have no rent control and will likely start at $2000 for a small studio.

Moreover, there is a history of the City going ahead with development without considering ecosystems. Ex. The Don River floodplains. By diverting the surges to the river it has now become a regular flood zone.

Truthfully, I am deeply concerned at the fact that a group of people working for the City have actually developed this proposal. It is such an insidious, inutile, and poorly constructed proposal that shows a lack of logic and care (for the environment, for the general public, taxpayers, the future of the City, and Indigenous persons and rights). This Bill may not (ideally will not) pass, but the people who have constructed this will likely still be working for the City. If so, I would prefer if there was an audit or check for resources/support from diverse groups that actually have expertise in the areas of development as it correlates to urban planning and environmental protection sans confirmation bias. I would prefer for them to fully look into the long term results of whatever it is they are proposing and not the financial gains.

Apart from this, logically, the ruin of an ecosystem and the deliberate disregard for protected species (considering that the Bill will allow the government to add and remove species at their behest) will be detrimental to the City and humans in general. It will also be a poor financial decision regardless of the short term financial gains from development go-aheads.
