There does not seem to be any pond there, so this is clearly coming from the river. This amount of water use will significantly impact water levels in the river, impact negatively on wildlife, and potentially contaminate or impact the various residential wells in the area. I do NOT support this application. We need to preserve our environment not contaminate it for further development.
1. Aggregate Washing Sludge Has A Large Negative Impact on the Environment
Aggregate is used in construction, the waste stream of which "exceeds 3 billion tons globally, of which waste concrete is the main stream accounting for 85% of C&D waste in the United States, 81% in Australia, and 45% in China. It has long been regarded as one main contributor damaging the natural environment, resulting from huge energy consumption during C&D activities, unsorted landfill, illegal dumping, and mixed contamination. Addition to the overall low recycling rate of C&D waste around the world, dealing with its negative environmental impacts is largely called for." (see 1st URL)
2. Aggregate Washing Sludge Can Be Recycled and/or Repurposed
This proposal does not include any plan to recycle, remake, or reuse the aggregate. There are potential applications for such waste which are economically positive. (See 2nd URL)
Clearly, this company needs to make a much greater effort to be responsible to not only the local residents, but our precious land and water. More research and a more sustainable proposal need to come forward.
