The Saugeen River and its tributaries, including the Styx River are valuable freshwater water resources and support a healthy but threatened trout population.
The fishery is already threatened by high temperatures in the warm summer months. Extracting water for gravel pits will only exacerbate the problems this ecosystem faces.
