I do NOT support the transfer of ownership of Beach 1 and Beach 2 to the Town of Wasaga Beach, for the following reasons:
1) The beach should stay open to all. I do not want the town to be able to sell beachfront land or beachfront access - either now or in the future. For example, I could see the council allowing the hotel that is being built at Beach 1 to have a sectioned off area, down to the water, for its guests only. I do not want that.
2) If the town controls Beach area 2, it would very likely be developed. I support it staying as parkland.
3) The town does not have the expertise to adequately manage the environmentally sensitive areas near the mouth of the river. The Ministry of the Environment does.
4) The local council is redeveloping the beach in what it considers to the best way for the economy of the town. They are responsible to the voters. The beach should stay under Provincial Park control so that there is a voice on the development decisions that is responsible to the environment, speaking for what is best for the beach and the lake.
