I am pleased that Devil's Glen Provincial Park is considering an amendment to the management plan to formally recognize rock climbing as a permitted activity. Devil's Glen is home to over 160 classic rock climbing routes, with a history of climbing dating back at least since 1983.
I have spent over 10-years climbing at Devil's Glen and have many fond memories of climbing with friends, and am interested in creating many future memories in the years to come. I hope to share Devil's Glen as a wilderness park with generations to come.
As climbers visiting our much loved outdoor spaces, most of us have made personal commitments to being good land stewards, and setting the bar for taking care of this land in order to preserve it for others and future generations. Climbers are routinely maintaining our public wild spaces by maintaining trails, picking up trash, and educating others.
For these reasons, I believe that Devil's Glen Provincial Park and the rock climbing community can continue to work together to ensure that the sport of rock climbing can continue to benefit the park, while providing climbers with a space to recreate. I applaud Devil's Glen Provincial Park for the proposal to formally recognize rock climbing as a permitted activity.
