I do not support this proposal. I believe that it will compromise work at the local level by removing direct oversight of the Hamilton area from the people who work and live in the Hamilton. It sounds like it will produce more headaches having more people involved in managing a larger area. I also see no concrete proof in the proposal that consolidating the conservation agencies will improve anything. Where is the studies and research backing this proposal? What are the potential cost savings associated with this proposal? What are the proposed unifying protocols and systems to be put into place to account for the variability in how each authority manages their region? I am concerned that with the current provincial governments predisposition to catering to large developers and corporations with little regard for the environment that this is some sort of effort to fast track development via the provincial oversight body proposed. I do not trust this proposal is for the benefit of the environment or residents of Ontario but is more likely going to benefit wealthy developers and likely cut overall funding (though it appears the province contributes only 1% of the funding the HCA receives). I believe that unless all other methods to improve how each of the 36 operate without merging them have been exhausted and failed to work that this seems premature. I do not see any mention of efforts to improve operations and consistency within the current setup. Why can there not be a provincial board to aid with governance of the current system to gain consistency? Why does the merger have to happen as well? I have too many questions to feel this proposal was well thought out.
