I think it is important to keep the existing protections in place for species at risk. Ontario has been doing well economically since the Endangered Species Act was brought into force, therefore there is no economic reason to weaken protections. If anything, we should be increasing the protections for species at risk. If the government is so concerned about the level of financial debt it is passing on to future generations, it should be just as concerned about the environmental debt it is passing on to future generations. Once a species is lost, it cannot be recovered.
