At a time when reports around the globe are finding that loss of biodiversity is putting our ability to produce enough food to feed our citizens at risk, I find it short-sighted and alarming that the government is looking to find opportunities for short-term financial gain for businesses within the endangered species act. Extinction is permanent, we are at a critical tipping point, and we absolutely cannot afford to overlook long-term effects in favour of short-term gains.
