It is clear from recent polling that Ontarians want strengthened environmental legislation rather than weaker. This does not go far enough for people who are making money off polluting our air and contributing to climate change - it is residents who suffer. Air quality in Ontario is getting worse - Canada has the 3rd fastest growing rate in the world of childhood asthma from emissions - and still we prioritize business profit. They must be taxed for their pollution at a higher rate and spend their own capital to reduce these emissions. This must include more than just big business - car emissions are the biggest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and toxic pollution in our cities and revenue from big emitters should be used to build and incentivize clean vehicles and infrastructure.
