The reliance on implementing penalties for individual infractions ignores the fact that some types of industries rely on outdated techniques. Please stick with the federal carbon tax that is a proven effective tool to curb pollution and fund newer and greener business.

I think it's important to consider where the money from these penalties will be going. I would suggest that a portion of the funds be directed back to support rehabilitation of the harm done or support some other sort of environmental project. Read more

I support the idea of Administrative Penalties. However, the $200,000 limit seems quite high. I suspect that many incidents will have multiple non-compliance violations and the penalties could really add up. Read more

We live in the shadow of "Waterdown Gardens", a former 100 acre farm that has been decimated by the dumping of waste soil (which in all likelihood is contaminated). The new enhanced legislation is certainly welcome, although it comes too late for this site. Read more

For those polluters who years cannot comply with EPA, continue causing the adverse effects to public, only fine them on some money is not enough, should revoke their ECA to stop their pollution.

The current environmental penalties do not have an appeal provision, if they do not comply the original violation can go for prosecution. This allowed the government and proponent to avoid the cost of trial for a violation. Read more

I agree with a program that can entice people to stop polluting. A balance between seizing licence plates and giving rewards to use of pollution reduction is needed. More money needs to be given to public transit, especially in rural and suburban areas.

It is clear from recent polling that Ontarians want strengthened environmental legislation rather than weaker. This does not go far enough for people who are making money off polluting our air and contributing to climate change - it is residents who suffer. Read more
