Water is our most precious resource. Serious action needs to be taken now. Recent negative changes are obvious: wildly fluctuating water levels, increase in algal blooms, beach closures due to high bacteria levels, invasive species. The Proposed new Canada-Ontario Agreement on Great Lakes Water Quality and Ecosystem Health looks good, but will it be implemented? The recommendations are fittingly complex and comprehensive, but will be utterly useless unless the Ontario and federal governments provide sufficient funding to hire qualified, dedicated scientists to undertake this serious work.
