I strongly encouage the Ministry to promote good practices within the Province. I often hear through television or newspaper articles that the City of Hamilton or the City of Toronto has these great new programs that are designed to reduce, reuse and/or recycle and yet this is only heard by chance. What we do not hear about is how successful the programs are, what the costs are or what the issues are that made the program a success or a failure. One prime example of my concern is that there are numerous composting facilities operating in this Province. We hear through the rumour mills that many of these facilities are having difficulties with their day to day operations but we do not hear what these exact issues are and how they are managing these problems. More importantly, we do not receive any feedback from the Ministry regarding the composting success stories and the technologies that are used in the facilities that are not creatinng nuisance odours. The same goes for any process, we need to hear what efforts are being successfully used in the Province versus failures so we can learn from other Municipal efforts. Guilelines seldom convince partners in the Province to budget finances towards implementing recommendations in policy statements. Actual legislation is often required to get people on board. I do understand that the AMO is an avenue for information exchange for Municipalities however most municipalities do not tend to braodcast their failures. The Ministry certainly is aware of the technologies that are working across the Province through the Approvals Branch and this information should be distributed across the Province.
