I am completely in favour of expanding the Greenbelt to include all of the study area and even more. There is no portion of the study area that should be deleted. All of Springwater Township, Tiny Marsh, and the complete Alliston aquifer should be added.
Although the study targets water, it should be expanded in its mandate to include agricultural land and forests. We must take a holistic approach to to the whole issue of environmental stewardship. I hear the voices of the many farmers who worry about government restrictions that will limit their ability to sell out to developers. They have my sympathy, but that pattern of retiring from farming with millions of dollars from developers who will then remove the land from agricultural production and create more urban centers must be changed. If it continues, we will have no hope of feeding ourselves in the future or of creating a sustainable economic and natural environment.
Bottom Line: We need less studying and more action. Any "Greenbelt" designation is already too little too late. All these studies and anemic half measures are simply bandaids that hide an underlying crisis. Our ultimate goal should be to completely stop immigration and then stabilize our population. We do not have too few resources. We have too many many people making unsustainable demands on those resources.
