Making the proposed amendments to the Ontario Pesticide Act puts us on a slippery slope. Hundreds of scientific studies point to evidence of harm from neonics, leading governments around the world to restrict their use. Ontario took a leading role in this effort 5 years ago and here we are once again with an effort to roll back when science tells us we should be moving forward and banning these pesticides completely. I would ask the Government of Ontario to maintain current restrictions on neonics, including third-party verification and reporting requirements, and to work toward a comprehensive ban on these chemicals.
