I am glad to see the removal of OPAC. It's function was to put a social aspect to a scientific matter. Unfortunately that committee lead to an undue hardship to Ontario farmers as they were not allowed access to active ingredients that farmers in other jurisdictions were allowed to use. Read more

I support the removal of the Ontario Pesticide Advisory Committee (OPAC) from the Ontario Pesticide Act. The federal government, through the Pest Management Regulatory Agency, conducts a thorough, scientific review and risk assessments for pesticide registrations. Read more

It is good to see these changes. This will definitely speed the process up but as a farmer that has taken the Ontario pesticide course since they started I have concerns. Most farmers and instructors have agreed with me that the course basics since it began have not changed. Read more

This is understandably concerning that you want to remove the “time lag” for businesses to start using and selling pesticides without waiting for proper classification. You are proposing to remove a critical step in protecting people from toxins for cosmetic purposes. Read more

I do believe in continuing education, however I have a problem with re writing the exam every 5 years. If someone has had limited time to study because of family or personal reasons and they fail the exam then they are potentially out of a job and sometimes they are the only income for the family.
