If these changes are put in place they will remove many of the protections that are in place for many of the endangered species located in the golden horseshoe. Specifically, this would come to be as mining corporations mine for aggregate. This would result in the destruction of these species' habitat. For example, located here is the Jefferson Salamander lives solely in this environment making it very sensitive to the disruptions in its environment. In addition the Salamander lives in a UNESCO heritage site, the Niagara Escarpment. By giving way to corporations such as the Ontario Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (OSSGA) will result the loss of profits with regards to tourism to the region. Furthermore, combined with already weakened protection of endangered species makes all to easy for corporations to gain approval. It is worth noting that despite what the OSSGA there are more environmental friendly alternatives to concrete and aggregate such as Hempcrete. Which is composed of Hemp, lime (mineral) and sand. It also acts as an insulator and much less brittle than concrete. I strongly urge this government to reverse its plans on endangering Ontario's wildlife and begin thinking long-term about Ontario's environment and it's people's well-being. Rather than the wealth of corporations who take advantage of Ontarian workers.
