RE: Proposed Amendment No.1 to the 2019 A Place to Grow: Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe
ERO number 019-1680

Thank you for the opportunity to provide comments on the proposed Amendment No. 1 of the 2019 A Place to Grow: Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe (“Growth Plan”). Please accept these comments on behalf of the Town of Wasaga Beach.

Extension of the Growth Plan’s Time Horizon to 2051 and Removal of Schedule 7

As the Town prepares its new Official Plan, and continues to participate in the upper-tier Municipal Comprehensive Review (“MCR”), having the ability to plan to an appropriate horizon is critical.

The in-effect Simcoe County Official Plan policy is fulfilling the requirement of Schedule 7 of the Growth Plan, which limits Wasaga Beach to the horizon of 2031 for a population of 27,500 and 3,500 jobs. The Town’s projected growth is anticipated to exceed 27,500 people prior to 2031 and has previously surpassed 3,500 jobs. The Town is well-position to continue growing and supports the extension of the planning horizon from 2041 to 2051 and the removal of Schedule 7. The Town looks forward to continuing efforts with Simcoe County to fulfill their ongoing MCR.

Removal and Modification of Policies Regarding Growth targets

The Town of Wasaga Beach supports the proposed policies which provide greater flexibility for Simcoe County and Wasaga Beach to have greater influence in achieving the goals and objectives of the Province for the Greater Golden Horseshoe.

Proposed Changes to the Land Needs Assessment Methodology

Although the assessment of land needs is an exercise for single and upper-tier municipalities, its outcomes are of great interest to the Town of Wasaga Beach. The Town supports the proposed approach for the new methodology.

Please consider these comments in the proposed Amendment No. 1 to the 2019 A Place to Grow: Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe.

Sincerely,

George Vadeboncoeur
Chief Administrative Officer
Town of Wasaga Beach
