Hello,
I am writing to express my concern with Miller Paving's attempt to change usage and responsibility for the usage of the pit on Reid Rd and Concession 7. I strongly object to this application. Miller has a ongoing problem with abiding by the current set of regulations. By approving this application you will encourage their poor corporate behaviour and move responsibility onto a small township without the resources to police the actions of this large corporation.
This site sits on the vulnerable Oak Ridge Moraine and needs to be rehabilitated as per Miller's legal obligation. Water quality is a real concern. Miller's associated application to the Township requests permission to import 1 million cubic metres of fill. Uxbridge does not have the resources to ensure this fill is not contaminated. Nor do we have the resources to pay for the accompanying costs of road deterioration and repair required by what is approximately 81,000 truck loads of fill.
Allowing this application would destroy what little control the Province has over aggregate extraction and rehabilitation. It is already a struggle for the Province to enforce the Aggregate Act, especially the rehabilitation of pits. To think a small rural community could take on this responsibility is a dangerous move. We do not have the resources and people are very subject to pressure.
Please do not approve this application.
A concerned resident.
