As a resident of Uxbridge and a business owner in town, I'm very concerned about the risk to our local natural environment posed by the Miller proposal. While I have confidence in our current council's judgment and ability to manage contractors, there's no way of knowing if future councils will handle things appropriately and putting aquifer safety first.
Developers and big business such as Miller will not see the needs of a small town - especially one like ours, whose tourism brand is directly tied to our natural assets. Our future economic growth relies on us being good stewards of this land and water.
We should be allowing only temporary pits and demanding that they are returned to their natural state, and this application should be staying in the hands of the Ministry of Natural Resources, which has the power to hold aggregate companies accountable for their actions. Please do not set a dangerous precedent by allowing this application to go through.
