It is unconscionable that this legislation would be repealed before a well articulated alternative has been tabled.
Whatever the approach (cap and trade, carbon tax, etc.), it is essential that the environmental impact of green house gas emissions be given a true cost in financial calculations. As long as the costs/risks of environmental impact (specifically climate change) are externalized, individuals and businesses will continue to make decisions without regard for these costs.
I personally would be willing to see the price of goods increase to properly reflect the environmental costs of consumption, so that my behaviour (and that of other Ontarians) is modified to reduce environmental impact.
This is probably the most urgent issue of our time and needs to be addressed quickly and decisively.
