Boreal Caribou are a keystone species whose continued existence signals that their Boreal forest habitat is healthy and self-sustaining. Their habitat must be protected if the Ontario government is to show leadership in fighting climate change and biodiversity loss. I urge the Ontario government to take the advice of leading experts on the Caribou and their habitat and protect this land from human destruction. We have a goal in Canada, and in the world to protect 30% of natural areas for the future well-being of humanity. Ontario is a long way from that goal - about 11% of Ontario's land is truly protected. It is time to add the Boreal habitat, so crucial to our own healthy future, to the protected areas in Ontario.
