Fighting climate change is the most pressing issue of our time. It should not be the subject of partisan debate, but rather an overriding humanitarian effort.
The effects of climate change impact various financial sectors. It is evident in agricultural with crop failures, in natural resource operations with poor yields, in healthcare with pollutant-related disease, and in insurance industries with increasing disaster-driven claims. Any short term savings achieved by neglecting carbon taxation will be greatly outweighed in the long term by these economic costs. Beyond the financial implications, environmental preservation is simply the right course of action to preserve our province and protect the well-being of its people.
The cancellation of the cap-and-trade system without a suitable replacement to target carbon reduction is an atrocity. As the much touted "Government for the People", your irresponsible environmental policy may singularly be the most harmful action for Ontarians.
