I as a young adult living in Ontario am deeply concerned about the cancellation of the Cap and Trade Program in Ontario, for moral and practical reasons. When I think about my future and the future of Ontario the issue that I believe poses the most threat is climate change. I am deeply concerned about my health and safety in the future due to the threats of climate change and am loosing trust in the Ontario government because you continually place economics and business before the environment. I want to know that the government is looking out for my health and safety in the present and the future. However, the cancellation of the Cap and Trade program is doing the opposite of that, it is placing current economic interests before the future of Ontario.
Additionally, the legal fees and the money that will have to be paid back to the companies that bought into the program is a waste of tax payers money. I want you to put my money towards efforts to improve the environment, not to slash programs that are already doing so. Finally, carbon tax, whether it be in Cap and Trade or some other form is inevitable. The federal government has already stated that Ontario will have to implement a carbon tax. Fighting them on this is foolish as it is another waste of our money and once again places economic interest before the future health and safety of residents of Ontario. I urge you to make the right moral and economic decision and stop the cancellation of the Ontario Cap and Trade program, for my future and the future of all residents of Ontario.
